How to Choose the Right Ceiling Light or Chandelier Size

When selecting a ceiling light or chandelier, it’s important to choose the right size for the room. Use the following guidelines to determine the correct fixture diameter and hanging height.

Step 1: Determine the Fixture Diameter

To find the ideal diameter (in inches) for your ceiling light or chandelier:

  1. Measure the room’s length and width in feet.
  2. Add those two numbers together.
  3. Convert the sum from feet to inches.

Example: For a room that measures 12 feet by 14 feet: 12 + 14 = 26 inches (Recommended fixture diameter)

Step 2: Determine the Hanging Height

Proper placement of the fixture ensures both aesthetics and functionality.

  • General Ceiling Placement:
    • The bottom of the fixture should be at least 7 feet above the floor for standard ceilings.
    • For ceilings higher than 8 feet, add 2–3 inches of hanging height for each additional foot.

Example: For a 10-foot ceiling, the fixture should hang 7 feet 4–6 inches above the floor.

  • Above Tables or Counters:
    • The fixture should hang at least 36 inches above the surface.

Step 3: Choosing Light Bulbs for Alabaster Fixtures

Under product specifications, we list the number of sockets and maximum wattage. We recommend using LED bulbs with a 2700K soft white color temperature for the best lighting effect on alabaster fixtures.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure your lighting is both functional and visually appealing. Need further assistance? Our team is excellent with finding the right dimensions with zero returns in the last year, so give us a call.
